Goto the directory that you installed The Sims. Then goto the UserData directory and hex edit "Neighborhood.iff". Search for "46414D49" This represents the start of section of the file for each family that is available. If you have created your own family you will find the name you used. As long as you have not played (only created a family) then you can search for "204E" which represents the default $20,000 each family starts with.
