Ultima Online: The Second Age cheats / Ultima Online: The Second Age hints / Ultima Online: The Second Age faqs / Ultima Online: The Second Age solutions Ultima Online: The Second Age faqs and solutions ULTIMA ONLINE THE SECOND AGE COMPLETE GUIDE - BY SCREAM Dedicated to Reaver for getting me started in the world of Ultima Online Cheers! ME! ------- UPDATES ------- I started work on this FAQ on 02/02/00. I am wondering whether I should do a Item List and a weapon and armour list. Please Email me with your opinion. Soon I will be putting up a list of Shards (Worlds, servers) and their IP addresses in the Offline Section. I was wondering if I should do a guide for the Dungeons.... By the way I am going to make this THE BEST guide of Ultima Online EVER. Version 0.2 - - Cleaned up everything so now the tables are readable - Got rid of the UO symbol - Added things to the item section ------------ INTRODUCTION ------------ Well this is my first FAQ so dont blame me if it sucks which it probably does not . I am currently writing a Xenogears guide as well as this (Both at the same time), So go check that out as well and This is the first proper good FAQ for Ultima Online The Second Age. Just Email me if you have any more questions not covered in the guide or if you want me to do a FAQ for another game! All Emails will be Read! By the way my spelling aint that good and you will probably notice a few mistakes feel free to tell me.... Ultima Online was the first game of its kind, it is a amazing 3D RPG online.Basically Final Fantasy 7 Online! Even though the graphics are not that great the playability makes up for that. This guide will tell you how to make money quick and easy and a step by step guide to setting up the great offline package. (Ultima Offline is a unoffical program) So read on... THE STORY OF ULTIMA ONLINE - Once their was a world called Sosaria and it was ruled by a evil mage called MONDAIN THE WIZARD he was the evil ruler of the world . Then all of sudden came a mysterious knight who no one knows, he went to Mondains castle and slaughted Mondain he then shattered Mondains most prized possesion the gem of immotality with the destruction of the gem a more sinster evil was released. Each fragment of the gem contained a world very alike to Sosaria this is the world that we are born into live and die. This is the multiverse world of ULTIMA ONLINE!!! I wrote this story even though i have seen the intro once so it is not entirley accurate. ----------------------------- MONEY MAKING IN ULTIMA ONLINE ----------------------------- If you want to be a warrior but still make money then at the start choose these three skills... 1. Swordmanship - 35 % 2. Bowyer - 40 % 3. Lumberjacking - 25 % Set your STR (Strength),DEX (Dextriety)INT (Intelligance) Like this... 1. Strength 45 2. Dextriety 10 3. Intelligance 10 Or you can change Swordmanship to Mace Fighting or archery To be a Wizard change Swordmanship to Magery and set your INT a higher level than 10 and put your STR right down... like this... 1. Strength 10 2. Dextriety 10 3. Intelligance 45 Do this if you are a wizard... 1. Magery 35% 2. Bowyer 40% 3. Lumberjacking 25% I think bowyer is the best way of making money because you only need wood to create stuff and trees are everywhere in the world of UO ( Ultima Online ). If you want to be a hardcore bowyer i suggest you start off in the town called Yew. But I would personally start off in a more populated and lively place like Vesper. The trees are just outside town in Vesper and if a PK (Player Killer) or monster confonts you, you can easlily run back into town. As soon as you start off you should go and get a decent Hatchet rather than a practice on you start with. This will set you back about 35 gold. Even though this may seem a lot at the moment don't worry soon you will be making 2500 gold in about 45 minutes when you got your levels up. So you got the hatchet? Good now go find some trees found some? Now open up your character screen ( Paperdoll screen ) by double clicking on yourself. Now open your backpack and drag the hatchet you just bought onto your right hand. Now place yourself near a tree and double click on the hatchet a small targeting cursor should appear, target the tree and left click once. If successful it should say "you place some logs in your pack" if you are not successful it will say "you fail to harvest any good wood" or something like that, thats ok just keep at it and soon when your lumberjack level goes up you will be cutting wood in one go. Ok so you got some logs? Now double click on your hatchet and then click on the logs a new menu should come up with pictures of bows, crossbows and arrows select either the bow or the crossbow and your character will start to make it. You will either make a below average bow or crossbow, a average one, a exceptional one or you will not produce one at all. A bow should sell for around 32 G , a crossbow will sell for around the same price and a Heavy Crossbow should sell for about 60 G. By the way you cannot make Heavy crossbows until you have a bowcraft skill of over 55%. Now you made about 15 bows or more? Right now go sell them to a bowyer and flecthing shop. Sometimes they may be overstocked and might not buy off you, if so start travelling to another town and try sell them there. Don't bother trying to sell them to players because if they wanted a bow they would go buy them from a proper shop ok? Now repeat all that I have said above till you have loads of money. Good luck you probably wont need it though. When you are a more expierienced player and you start to get bored of the bowyer skill start concentrating on the harder mining and blacksmithy skills... First go to Minoc of course and hacking into that mountain until you are just about to be overloaded with stuff then head back to town, go past the bank and follow the path to a blacksmith shop. Now double click on the ore and then on the forge (the hot furnace thing) Sometimes you will turn the ore into things called ingots. Now stand near an anvil and use a blacksmith hammer (Buy it from the shopkeeper their) on the ingots by double clicking on the hammer then on the ingots. Like bowcraft a new menu should come up choose what you want to make - there is loads of stuff armour shields and weapons - then go sell to the weaponsmith and armouror people and get your cash. But i prefer bowcraft because you can make the stuff straight away instead of going to a anvil or forge. Keep on doing that and you will make a bit more money than bowyer but it will take longer. What bored of Blacksmith already? Time to move on to the next skill Carpentry , first you need equipment go to the nearest carptenter in town and buy some stuff like wood planes and nails. Now go chop down some wood, ok so you got the wood now double click on the plane and then on the logs and you can turn into boards i think. Now double click on a bladed weapon then on the boards a new menu will come up with what you want to make and then choose. Come on you must be getting used to this by now? (As you probably found out from the above paragraph i aint no expierenced carpenter) Now it is time to move on to the jobs that are not listed in the UO manual or in the game itself. Here is a list of them.... Picking up the trash - Going around picking up people's rubbish which they throw on the floor and selling it. Go around areas where there are loads of fights and loot the dead bodies. Also wait around the banks people drop loads of stuff there. Bounty Hunting - Killing PKs taking their head and giving it to the guard who will reward you with a LOT of money. But beware you have to be good to kill a PK (Player Killer). Stealing - Steal from stupid NPCS (Non-player-characters I.E Computers) who will not fight back when you steal from them in the wilderness outside town. Conning people - Buy one horse and go round town Shouting out HORSE FOR SALE 200 GP! Now when someone comes up and asks you to transfer the animal just say transfer and some people think you transfered it then they will give you the money. Now walk off with your horse and their money. He he he. Organize a Battle - Get two people or animals to fight now get people to place their money on them now simply walk off with the money while the animals or people are still fighting so they won't notice. If you think of more ways to make money not listed in the UO manual please email them to me and I will put it on the FAQ under your name. Thank you. Ok if you want to be a rock solid hard warrior do this... 1. Swordmanship 35 2. Tactics 35 How poweful and how ofthen you hit someone 3. Parrying 30 How good you are at defending with a shield You could make money by escorting people from town to town mainly NPCs , players will just con you. But your best bet at making real money is to go out fighting monsters and nicking their gold and weapons some monsters carry around with them. Never go to dungeons unless you are with at least 10 other wicked players. You won't believe how many PK's hang around in dungeons. OR if you want to be a Skillful Mage do this... 1. Magery 50 2. Resisting Spells 50 3. Blank 0 Wizards can make money easily like warriors by killing monsters and stuff. Other jobs wizards can get is if someone wants teleporting somewhere you can charge them for teleporting them or you can heal someone or revive someone and ask them pay you. A wicked job is this wait outside town on the outside of a road and when someone comes by hit them with paralzyse. Now as they can't move snoop in their bag see what they got and tell them to hand it over. I have done this and most people hand over their stuff. If they don't give you anything just hit them with something weak to show you are serious they should give in. BUT NEVER KILL THEM! Skills you should never choose - Arms Lore - Get this skill up in the actual game it goes up quick Alchemy - Just buy the potions what is the point in making them yourself? Anatomy - Get this skill up in the actual game it goes up quick Animal Lore - No point in it what so ever Animal taming - You only need one animal a horse just buy it. Begging - Get this skill up in the actual game it goes up quick also you make yourself look stupid Camping - Get this skill up in the actual game it goes up quick Cartography - They sell maps cheap dont bother making them yourself Cooking - Buy your own pre-cooked meals for about 10 gp cheap... Detecting Hidden - Trust me you will not use this EVER! Enticement - Get this skill up in the actual game it goes up quick Fencing - Rubbish choice of weapons Healing - Be a mage it is better Herding - ANIMALS IN UO ARE RUBBISH! NO MORE ANIMALS EVER! EXCEPT HORSES! Lockpicking - There is never anything good to lock pick anyway Snooping - Get this skill up in the actual game it goes up quick Spirit Speak - Get this skill up in the actual game it goes up quick Tailoring - Clothes come cheap Tinkering - Too complicated no money making really Tracking - Only really good players use this Vet - AAAAAAHHHHHHH! ANIMALS SUCK IN UO ! Wrestling - Unarmed combat .... PAH! Never knew so many skills are that crap... Thats all there is to it , that is how you make money now go and try out those new techniques... That is the end of this section and no more updates will be made on it until I can think of some more money making ideas. Email me with your ideas as well - Scream127@hotmail.com - I will put your name down next to your idea. Get Writing... ---------------------------- WHAT TO SPEND YOUR MONEY ON ---------------------------- So you now got all that hard earned cash in your pocket what do you do now? Well now is deciding what you wanna buy... Here is a list of stuff that will be useful in your UO life... Small Ship 15000 G Provisoners Small House 43000 G Arctictect Tent 22000 G Arctictect Guild Stone 12000 G Provisoners Black Robe 300 G Player owned Vendors Black Cape 150 G Player Owned Vendors Magic Longsword 300 G Player Owned Vendors Magic Katana 300 G Player Owned Vendors Heater Shield 176 G Armourer or Weaponsmith Magic Heavy Crossbow 300 G Player Owned Vendors Bone Armour Complete Set 1200 G Leather worker Vendor (If you have a house) 80 G per day (real time) Inn Keepers More Expensive stuff that you and some friends should try and buy together.... Tower Deed 760000 G Arctictect Castle Deed 1000000 G Arctictect Large Ship Sorry dont have a price... Shipright Keep Deed 700000 G Arctictect Large Smithy 116000 G Arctictect 3 Story house 333000 G Arctictect Well first thing i think you should buy is a decent weapon and shield, get the weapons from players not vendors but get the shield off vendors though. Black clothes are not essantial but it does make your character look nicer than usual. Also Bone armour you need that if you are going to be a warrior it helps a lot. Next we have houses they are good because you can put your special belongings in here and you can put vendors around it so people can buy your bows and stuff while you are offline. I would not recommend buying a tent because of course it has no locked door but it does come with a nifty chest though. A ship I think is really good buy because you can go anywhere you want and it is lockable so you can have house-boat in one! Also you and your friends can i have a nice relaxing fishing session.... The stuff like castles and towers are probably way too expensive for you but if all of your guild and friends all pitch in you can probably have enough money altogether. I think castles are a bit of a waste of money because towers are cheaper and have more room and floors too it. When you have a house or tower buy a guild stone and start up your own clan! Its great! Now get stuff like lanterns, and reagents if you are a mage. Always be prepared before you go anywhere. ------------- Offline Guide ------------- The offline guide is complicated and big and will be finished soon hopefully. In the meantime go to WWW.UOXDEV.COM and download a version of Ultima Offline it will probably come without instructions though that is why i am writing a FAQ for it. Anyway Ultima Offline is good because - It is OFFLINE ! No LAG ! And if you live in the UK no Internet Phone Bills ! Your world starts off empty you have to add everything NPCs , Doors and signs and stuff. But dont worry all the stuff like buildings and trees are there though.... When you created your world you can go online with it and people can live in your world! And you can stop paying Origin and EA that stupid Fee every month of ó8 or something... Come Back later when the Offline guide is finished Thank You! It does sound exciting though dont you think??? ---------- ITEM LIST ---------- This is going to be a very hard task for me to do by the way. More Items Coming soon... ------------------------------------ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ANSWERED! ------------------------------------ Why are some peoples names in Red or Grey? They are in red and grey because they have committed crimes like murder and stealing. Keep well away from the murderers who higlight Red... Try and kill Grey people without penalty to your fame and Karma. I killed a murderer but i do not know how to take his head? Double click on your weapon in the paperdoll screen and then on the dead body, his body parts will go everywhere now find his head and drag it over to a town guard and they will reward you with money. How do I steal? I try to drag the item over to me but it says you can not pick that up please help! You are supposed to go into the skill menu - ALT+K - then click on the big M word Milleacous or something, now look for stealing and you should see a blue diamond next to it click on it then on the item you want to steal. I saw someone die in town and i picked up there stuff and the guards killed me why? If you pick up stuff before the corpse diseapers then you will be classed as a Thief for looting a dead guys body. If the guards spot you then they will kill you. And people can loot your body without penalty unfair aint it? When I type in a swear word it comes out as a bunch of symbols, I am old enough to swear and want to stop it coming out as symbols. Well go to your paperdoll screen and click on options go though the menus till you see a little icon say Filter Obsecinty uncheck the box! Now swear Forever! But be warned you can get your account deleted if you hurl abuse at innocent people for no reason. People keep on telling me to use the map to find my way around what Map? Simply press ALT+R and a little radar like map will pop up, press it once more to enlarge it then once again to get rid of it. I logged off once and when i came on next day my character was dead? How? Even though you select log off it takes at least 3 mins before your character diseapears to avoid being killed in that time log off in towns, inns or in the comfort of your own home. You disappear instantly when you log off in a inn. How do I change my pets name? Drag a menu off the pet then simply write the name (the menu with Health and stamina and stuff like that) I logged off with my pet but when I returned it was gone. To stop this from happening you have to stable your pets simply say Stable to a animal trainer click on your animal and it should disappear until you say Claim. Beware this takes money directly from you and you have to pay about 50 gp a week. Look don't bother keeping small pets like dogs , wolves and cats. Only have animals like horses. And dont even bother stabling them just log off while sitting on them and you will both disapear. When you log back on the horse will still be there. So just forget about that silly waste of time stable option. FORGET IT! DONT USE IT ! How do I attack? Hold the tab key (The third key directly under the Esc key) Then double click on the person or creature you wish to attack. If the person highlights blue when you your mouse over them do not attack unless you want to be a serial killer. Instead kill red and grey people. --------------- SURVIVAL TRICKS --------------- 1. Never go out of town with someone you just met they could kill you. 2. Watch out for people wanting to rush you outside town they may have bad intentions. 3. NEVER EVER BUY ANIMALS FROM HUMANS! They will rip you off most the time. 4. When travelling long distances leave ALL your stuff in the bank. 5. Try and get teleported to towns rather than walking their. 6. Don't Go to Graveyards or dungeons until you have high levels. 7. Don't annoy people chances are they will probably kill outside town. 8. Never let anyone stand near you as they may be snooping and stealing. 9. Keep all items that are VERY valuble in the bank not your house. 10. TRUST NO ONE !
